One killed in Wednesday accident

A one-vehicle traffic accident shortly before 2:00 a.m. on the north side of Pine Bluff resulted in the death of one man, police said in a news release.

Schulyer Pickle, 22, of Oklahoma was traveling north on Bryant Street when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a culvert, then struck a tree before coming to rest, Officer Richard Wegner said in the release.

Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley said Pickle was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Eric Belcher at 2:45 a.m. The cause of death was listed as multiple blunt-force trauma.

A passenger, who was not identified in the press release, was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries. The extent of his injuries was not available.

Wegner said the accident is under investigation by the PBPD traffic division.

The preliminary accident report was not yet listed on the Arkansas State Police website Wednesday morning.

According to that website, there had been 463 traffic fatalities in the state through Monday.
