One person has died of injuries resulting from a Monday morning house fire at 1020 S. Pennsylvania St. in Pine Bluff.
The fire remains under investigation, but the department said the fire appeared to have started from a space heater in a bedroom where the victim was found. Five people were rescued.
Pine Bluff firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 3:31 a.m. Monday, according to a report from the city’s Fire and Emergency Services Department. They were advised the house was “fully involved” with heavy fire and smoke coming from the front of the house.
The residents were outside and informed fire crews that one person was still inside, according to the department. Fire crews extinguished the fire and performed search-and-rescue, clearing the scene at 6:29 a.m.
The structure of the house and its contents have been ruled a total loss.
Fifteen firefighters from five companies responded to the blaze, as did Pine Bluff Police, Entergy workers and members of the Jefferson County coroner’s office.
