Oklahoma State trounces UAPB Lady Lions, 96-43

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women’s basketball team dropped its season opener against Oklahoma State University, 96-43, at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Okla., on Monday.

UAPB (0-1) shot 30.4% from the field and made just one of 10 3-point attempts. Sophomore guard Jailah Pelly led the Lady Lions with 15 points on 4 of 8 shooting from the bench. She made all seven of her free-throw attempts.

OSU (1-0) shot 57.1% from the field and made 12 of 23 shots from beyond the arc. Sophomore guard Macey Huard scored a game-high 31 points and hit 5 of 7 from deep. Micah Gray, Anna Gret Asi and Tenin Magassa each scored in double digits.

The Cowgirls held the Lady Lions to 8 points in the first quarter and 9 in the second and led 43-17 at halftime. UAPB added 11 points in the third and 15 in the fourth.

This was the first game for UAPB under new coach Erica Leak and the start of a three-game road trip, which continues Wednesday at Tulsa.
