An enthusiastic group of Jefferson County Democratic Women met recently to hear Darrell Stephens, a spokesman for President Barack Obama’s campaign.
Ways to get out the vote were discussed, as well as a report on the Shoe Box Project. The summer can be long and lonely for many Native American children living in isolated areas because they are not in school, so craft materials, activity books and other items are sent in individual shoe boxes to keep them learning and engaged during the summer months. Donations were gathered for the Summer Cereal Drive and plans were made to present the check to Wanda Bateman, the Jefferson County chairman of the drive.
Hostesses were Mary Whiteaker, Evelyn Horton and LaJuan Roaf, who served sandwiches, cake, other treats and drinks to those present.
The next meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn at The Pines mall at 6 p.m. Monday. Plans regarding a candidate “meet- and-greet” and other activities will be discussed.
The public is invited to attend.
