The next general sign-up for the Conservation Reserve Program will begin Monday and end Thursday, June 14.
CRP is a voluntary program that helps agricultural producers use environmentally sensitive land for conservation rather than for crops. Producers enrolled in CRP plant long-term resource-conserving cover crops to control soil erosion, improve water and air quality and develop wildlife habitat.
In return, participants receive rental payments and cost-share assistance.
“Land not currently enrolled in CRP, and participants with contracts expiring on Sept. 30, 2013, may submit applications during the May 20-June 14 sign-up” said Henry English, head of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Small Farm Program.
