Murder suspect gives in to police
Michael King Jr.

A man suspected of killing Markee Avery last week voluntarily turned himself in to authorities and police are now looking for another suspect, Pine Bluff police said Tuesday.

Michael King Jr. surrendered to police at the department without incident and is held at the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Detention Center, according to a news release. He is accused of capital murder in connection with the Friday shooting death of Avery, 36, at 1212 S. Spruce St. Avery was found lying outside the residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound Friday afternoon.

An hour after announcing Avery’s arrest, police revealed they are seeking Lamarcus Benton, 39, who is suspected of having a role in Avery’s death. Benton is described as a Black male standing 5-feet-10 and weighing 196 pounds.

Benton should be considered armed and dangerous, but King is considered the primary suspect, police say.

“We appreciate the efforts of our officers, detectives and the public who assisted in bringing this case to a peaceful resolution,” Police Lt. DeShawn Bennett said.

Anyone with information regarding Benton’s whereabouts is asked to call the Pine Bluff Police Department Detective Division at (870) 730-2090, the tip line at (870) 730-2106 or the dispatch center at (870) 541-5300.
