The Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission (AMLKC) announces plans for the 2019 State Official King Holiday Celebration honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The event will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, (the King Holiday), at Mims Gymnasium of Philander Smith College at Little Rock.
The doors open at 2 p.m. All events are open to the general public and admission is free, according to a news release.
Entertainers will include Zay Hilfigerrr, Angela Winbush and Melvin Williams of the Williams Brothers.
Other highlights include the “Broadway Joe Morning Show” Live Broadcast 5-9 a.m., documentary screening of NBC and Comcast’s “Hope and Fury: MLK, the Movement, The Media” (at the M.L. Harris Auditorium), Hope and Fury Bus Tour of Civil Rights Landmarks, King Holiday Car Show 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., free bus rides through partnership with Rock Region Metro, band showcase, coat drive, blood drive, free haircuts, vendor showcase, free food, hygiene kits and health screenings.
Sponsors include the Arkansas Department of Education, Conway Corp., State Farm, Wal-Mart and Entergy, according to the release.
