Mitchell seeks tax collector’s post

With the announcement last week that Jefferson County Tax Collector Stephanie Stanton Glover will not seek another term when hers ends Dec. 31, 2018, a former deputy in her office has indicated that she will be running for the position.

Leslie Elizondo Mitchell, who currently is a case coordinator in the Prosecutor’s Office, will be seeking the position in the March Democratic Primary.

A native of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Mitchell graduated from White Hall High School in 2000 and received an Associate of Arts Degree from Southeast Arkansas College in 2002.

In her candidate information sheet, Mitchell said she worked in the tax collector’s office for seven years and has nine years of work experience with Jefferson County.

“I love my community,” she said in the information sheet. “I have lived in Jefferson County for most of my life. I enjoy working for the public. I take pleasure in giving back to my community.”

Mitchell is a member of the NAACP, a volunteer for the White Hall Food Pantry and White Hall Little League, a member of the White Hall United Methodist Church and recording secretary for the WHUMC Administrative Council.

She is married to Jason Mitchell; they have two children, Dylan Mitchell and Dalton Mitchell.

“Because of my extensive experience in the Tax Collector’s Office, I feel I am the most qualified for this position,” she said in the information sheet.
