Yet another critical piece of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff secondary is moving on.
Starting cornerback Amyrion Mingo announced on social media Tuesday he will enter the transfer portal when it opens on Jan. 2.
Mingo tallied 32 tackles, including 2.5 for a loss, as a sophomore this past season. He intercepted one pass with a team-leading four breakups. He was UAPB’s seventh-leading tackler, third among defensive backs.
The Alexandria, La., native signed with UAPB out of high school in 2024 and played right away as a true freshman. He intercepted three passes that season, including two in one game against Arkansas Baptist.
Independent reporting for Pine Bluff & Jefferson County since 1879.
His interception this season came against Grambling State. His best games as a tackler were making six tackles against Alcorn State and five each against Bethune-Cookman and Alabama State.
Mingo is the fifth UAPB defensive back to declare for the transfer portal this year, including fellow starting cornerback Zach Williams and nickelback Kristian Gammage, a converted wide receiver.
The Golden Lions are, so far, set to lose a combined 82 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and three interceptions to the transfer portal from their secondary.
Mingo’s announcement was the second on Tuesday after tight end Tyreke Jinks announced his impending departure. In one season in Pine Bluff, Jinks caught seven passes for 44 yards and one touchdown.
Tuesday’s announcements brings UAPB’s total portal losses to date up to 13.
