Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr. presented a Resolution of Citizens Meritorious Service to Landon McDaniel and Kamdon McDaniel in a ceremony attended by their family members at the sheriff’s office.
On May 18, the sheriff’s office was involved in a search for William McElvain, who had been reported missing.
During the search, Landon and Kamdon were able to locate McElvain in a wooded area within some thick brush and informed deputies.
“It cannot be overstated how their efforts aided in Mr. McElvain’s rescue,” according to a news release.
Landon and Kamdon were there voluntarily and responded with their father Clyde McDaniel.
“We are proud of Landon and Kamdon and are thankful for their courageous efforts and their compassion for others which were evident in their actions on May 18, 2025. They both are an excellent example of citizen service at its finest,” a spokesman said.
