Phil McBee will present a review of “Smart Swarm,” written by Peter Miller, at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church, 6501 Hazel St.
“The author, a National Geographic editor, explores the inner workings of flocks, herds, schools, and colonies and reveals how collective intelligence in the animal world can teach us humans to organize, systematize, and problem solve more effectively. This new way of thinking is already in effect and is revolutionizing our daily lives in finance, the military, and even Google,” a spokesman said in a news release.
McBee is a retired Air Force officer and educator. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama, where he graduated from high school in 1959. He enlisted in the United States Air Force that same year and after 22 years of service, he retired. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in management from the University of Arizona and a Master of Science degree in education from East Texas State University.
Following McBee’s retirement from the Air Force, he taught computer and electronic courses at a private tech school, a junior high school, a community college, and a four year college before retiring from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where he had taught for 16 years.
He teaches a computer course for senior citizens twice a year through the Shepherd’s Center at Lakeside United Methodist Church.
The public is invited to attend the free book review. Door prizes and refreshments will be provided following the review.
