The Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Office, 500 Idaho St., will host Master Gardener Training by webinars from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 17 through Nov. 14.
The Master Gardener (MG) training will be broadcast from the Extension State Office at Little Rock to participating counties via webinar, according to a news release.
The training will cost $100 per person and each participant will receive a training book, thumb drive and a MG name badge upon completion of the course. A minimum of five participants will be needed to conduct this training at the local level.
Interested participants should fill out an application at the Jefferson County Extension office and go through an interview process. This deadline is Friday, Aug. 31. Participants must complete at least four of the five sessions, along with tests and final examination, to graduate.
“Master Gardeners are trained volunteers who donate time to their community in garden related activities. Master Gardeners receive hours of training from the local Cooperative Extension Service and then use what they have learned to beautify their community and promote horticulture,” according to the release.

“It has been said that having something interesting to do and having friends to do it with is one of the secrets to happiness. If you like gardening, becoming a Master Gardener is a great way to meet new friends who share your interest. When you become a Master Gardener, you are joining a group that shares your interest in growing things and in learning more about doing it better. As you work alongside your fellow Master Gardeners on local projects, you share ideas and sometimes even seeds and cuttings,” according to the release.
There will be ample opportunities for volunteer hours and sharing gardening skills after the MG training. Pine Bluff has a community garden for participants to implement any gardening ideas they may have.
The Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Office is part of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture which is an equal opportunity/equal access/affirmative action institution.
Those who require a reasonable accommodation to participate or need materials in another format, should contact the county Extension office as soon as possible. Dial 711 for Arkansas Relay, according to the release.
