A 31-year-old man who had been booked into the W.C. Dub Brassell Detention Center on Monday was found dead on Thursday, according to the Jefferson County sheriff’s office.
The death of Cawaske J. Jenkins “appears at this time to be a medical issue,” stated a news release from the office.
“Detention staff were notified that Jenkins was having medical issues,” stated the release. “Staff immediately responded, began trying to assist Mr. Jenkins, and requested emergency medical services. First responders arrived and began providing more advance medical efforts to Mr. Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins was pronounced deceased at Dub Brassell Detention Center.”
The sheriff’s office said there were no immediate signs of foul play.

“The preliminary assessment indicates the death may be related to a medical condition,” stated the release. “However, the exact cause and manner of death will be determined by the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory following an autopsy and full investigation.”
The Jefferson County sheriff’s office has notified Jenkins’ next of kin. The death remains under active investigation. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available, the office stated.
