Booker T. Mays III and Charleston E. Girley, both 2011 Dollarway High School graduates, recently received Freshman Scholar Awards from Arkansas State University at Jonesboro.
Mays and Girley were selected on the basis of scholastic achievements and academic excellence. The banquet, sponsored by the Strong-Turner Chapter of the ASU Alumni Association and the ASU Multicultural Center, was held at the Carl R. Reng Student Services Center Auditorium at Jonesboro.
Mays, a computer science major, is a member of the Sigma Alpha Lambda National Leadership and Honors Organization, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a recipient of the Academic Excellence Athletic Director’s Fall Honor Roll. Mays is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Booker Mays II of Pine Bluff.
Girley, an accounting major, is a member of the Sigma Alpha Lambda National Leadership and Honors Organization, the National Association of Black Accountants Inc., the ASU Accounting Club, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a recipient of the Academic Excellence Athletic Director’s Fall Honor Roll. Girley is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Girley Sr.
