NORMAN, Okla. — Arkansas-Pine Bluff had a lead on the No. 16-ranked team in the nation, Oklahoma, after a two run first inning, and the Golden Lions were able to hold the Sooners scoreless in the bottom half of the inning.
But UAPB (1-11) was not able to keep the Sooners (8-3) down for long as they scored a one in the second inning, two in the third and three in the fourth for a 6-3 lead and went on to win 9-4.
While UAPB was able to cut the lead to 6-4 in the seventh, the Sooners scored two more runs in the bottom half of the inning and added another one in the eighth.
Leo Fuentes took the loss for UAPB as he came on in relief of Redmond Floyd. Fuentes went three innings and gave up three runs on two hits, walked three and struck out three. Fuentes is 0-2 on the season.
Floyd went the first three innings and gave up three runs on five hits, walked three and struck out four batters. Elliot Jackson pitched the final two innings and gave up three runs on five hits and struck out two batters.

Offensively, Jacob Whitney and James Boulware each had RBIs for the Golden Lions and Sherman Thomas, Christian Weeber, Sean Samsa and Boulware all scored runs. Boulware drove in his run and scored his run on his first home run of the year.
Drew Harrison picked up his second win of the year for Oklahoma as he went three innings in relief and gave up one run on three hits, walked one and struck out two. Kindle Ladd threw the final three innings of the game and picked up his first save of the year.
Hunter Lockwood hit his fifth home run for the Sooners and drove in two runs, as did Max White and Jake Smith.
The two teams will close out the two-game set at noon today.
