Lions fall in comeback attempt to Sooners

NORMAN, Okla. — The No. 16 Oklahoma baseball team posted a victory against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Wednesday to complete the two-game sweep. The Sooners won 9-4 on Tuesday afternoon.

The fifth-straight win for the Sooners improved their overall mark to 9-3 while the Lions dropped to 1-12. OU has won all 10 meetings in the series with UAPB.

The Lions tied it at one run apiece in the top of the fourth off OU starter Jacob Rhame when Weeber singled to center and was chased home by Tyler Hill. But the Sooners countered with three runs in the bottom half of the frame. In that inning, OU scored off a bases loaded wild pitch from Brett Schweiger (0-2), who took the loss after giving up a two-run single to Max White.

The Golden Lions added a run in the seventh when J Boulware doubled down the left field line, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by S Samsa and scored on a fielder’s choice by S Williams.

UAPB made a late charge after falling behind 5-2 in the fifth with a pair of runs in the seventh but stranded the tying run at first base.

Tyler Hill and Jacob Whitney collected two hits apiece for UAPB.

Southern Arkansas 17, UAM 3

MAGNOLIA — Southern Arkansas used a seven-run second inning en route to a 17-3 blowout of Arkansas-Monticello in a non-conference game Wednesday at Goodheart Field.

The Muleriders (10-7) got some measure of revenge after suffering their first loss to the Boll Weevils (11-7) in six years in a 9-8 decision February 12 in the Mulerider Classic.

Southern Arkansas got a lot of help from five Arkansas-Monticello pitchers, who issued nine walks, hit five batters and served up four wild pitches.

Arkansas-Monticello starter Sam Cason (0-1) lasted 1 2/3 innings for the loss, allowing six earned runs on one hit and three walks.

Hunter Allday and Josh Chism had two hits each for the Boll Weevils.
