Support Mustiful
Jefferson County and the City of Pine Bluff — let’s take a moment to celebrate something truly special. Our very own Makiyah Mustiful has stepped onto the big stage of ABC’s “American Idol” (Season 24), and I couldn’t be more proud of her courage, her discipline, and her God-given talent.
Makiyah is the daughter of the late Dedrick Mustiful — my classmate, a former deputy sheriff, and a man who served this community with honor and heart. Dedrick passed unexpectedly on Oct. 19, 2014, but I know without a doubt that today, he’s smiling down from Heaven as his daughter shines in a moment that will inspire so many.
Makiyah’s story is a reminder that purpose doesn’t pause and dreams don’t have an expiration date. She’s not only representing Pine Bluff with excellence — she’s also an assistant financial center manager at Simmons Bank, proving that you can work hard, serve others, and still chase what God placed inside you.
I encourage everyone across Jefferson County and beyond: tune in and support Makiyah as she is highlighted on the second episode of “American Idol,” airing at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2 on ABC (KATV, Channel 7).

Let’s show the nation what we already know — Pine Bluff produces greatness. And Makiyah, keep singing with faith, confidence, and joy. That voice is a gift, and when you use it, you’re not just performing — you’re walking in your calling.
May God continue to guide your steps and strengthen your spirit. We’re proud of you, Makiyah. And Dedrick, rest easy, brother. Your legacy lives on.
