Legislators plan 3rd forum at Pine Bluff

The Jefferson County Legislative Delegation will host its third community forum from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at the Arkansas River Education Service Cooperative, 912 W. Sixth Ave.

The public is invited to attend. Legislators will lead the forum on the topic of justice and public safety.

Panelists will include state Sen. Jeremy Hutchinson, chairman, Senate Judiciary Committee; Maj. Ron Stayton, Crimes Against Children Division, Arkansas State Police; Marq Golden, assistant director of residential operations, Division of Youth Services, Department of Human Services; Adjoa Aiyetoro, professor, Racial Disparities in the Criminal Justice System Project, University of Arkansas at Little Rock Bowen School of Law; and Joyce Raynor, executive director, Center for Healing Hearts and Spirits.

The final forum will also be held at the same time and place Sunday, Oct. 25, and the topic will be jobs and economic development.

“Our economy and our communities are more detrimentally affected by issues like sexual abuse against children, domestic violence and juvenile detention than we realize,” District 17 state Rep. Vivian Flowers said in a news release. “So, we really need the economic development, health and education stakeholders who have or will attend the other forums to make this one a priority.”

The Jefferson County Legislative Delegation includes Rep. Camille Bennett (District 14), Rep. Ken Bragg (District 15), Rep. Ken Ferguson (District 16), Sen. Stephanie Flowers (District 25), Rep. Vivian Flowers (District 17), Rep. Mike Holcomb (District 14) and Sen. Bobby Pierce (District 27).
