The 2025 Leadership Pine Bluff Class recently spent a day exploring the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and Southeast Arkansas College.

“It was a day full of discovery, meaningful connections, and pride in our local educational resources,” according to the newsletter of the Pine Bluff Regional Chamber of Commerce.

The first stop was UAPB, where the Leadership Pine Bluff members were welcomed by Interim Chancellor Andrea Stewart before embarking on an informative campus tour.

Highlights included the UAPB museum, the bell tower, the nursing school and library, and the J. Thomas May Field House.

“A delicious taco lunch kept us energized — and we even enjoyed a fascinating presentation on honeybees,” according to the newsletter.

Then, onto SEARK, where the class met with campus leaders, including the college president, foundation director and dean of students.

“We toured the cutting-edge Technical Studies Building and got a first-hand look at the HVAC and welding classrooms, the vibrant Esports Room, and much more,” according to the newsletter. “We’re incredibly grateful to both UAPB and SEARK for their warm hospitality and for showcasing the vital role they play in shaping the future of our region. Southeast Arkansas is truly home to excellence in education.”

The Leadership Pine Bluff program, which graduated its inaugural class in 1982, is for individuals who want to make a difference in the community.

“This issues-oriented program broadens participants’ perspectives, examines community issues, expands opportunities to develop friendships from all segments of the community and strengthens leadership skills,” according to the Jefferson County Alliance and Chamber website. “Selected participants have a unique opportunity to work with area CEOs, professionals, elected officials and other fellow leaders as they study leadership techniques and community issues.”

The course consists of nine day-long sessions held once a month. Applications for the 2026 Leadership Pine Bluff Class will be available in September. For details, email Chamber Director Jennifer Kline or call the Chamber at (870) 535-0110.
