The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Arkansas will come through Pine Bluff at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, at Saracen Landing. Local officers will participate in the torch run as part of the statewide event in May each year.
Officers will begin their run near Lake Saracen where they will receive the torch from Stuttgart Law Enforcement runners. Special Olympics athletes from Jenkins Industries at Pine Bluff, will be on hand to help receive and send off their torch.
Runners from local agencies will be escorted by police vehicles and a city transit to Little Rock through the Dollarway community, White Hall and Redfield.
In Little Rock, the officers will be part of a ceremony uniting torches from all four corners of the state to create the final leg torch.
The final leg will be from Little Rock to Searcy on Thursday, May 26, where it will be delivered to the Special Olympics Arkansas State Summer Games Opening Ceremonies at Harding University.
The mission of the Law Enforcement Torch Run is to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics. Details: www.specialolympicsarkansas.org or local spokesman Travis Chisom at travis.chisom@cablelynx.com or ann@specialolympicsarkansas.org
