Lady Wildcats claim River City title

Fifth-seeded Watson Chapel overcame a 14-13 halftime deficit on its home floor to beat third-seeded Pulaski Academy 36-26 on Saturday for the River City Conference junior high girls basketball championship.

Lauren McCullough scored 16 points and Megan Moore added nine for the Lady Wildcats, who finished 13-9. They made it to the title game by upsetting top seed Sheridan 30-28 on Thursday.

Watson Chapel coach Leslie Henderson said her team extended their defense and put a lot of pressure on Pulaski Academy’s guards in their second-half turnaround. Watson Chapel trailed 10-5 after one period.

Ridgway Christian 30, Southwest Christian 19

LITTLE ROCK — Ridgway Christian School will play for a state championship in only its fourth year of existence.

Ridgway advanced to the title game of the Arkansas Association of Christian Schools junior high tournament with a 30-19 victory over Life Way Christian on Saturday at Southwest Christian Academy. Maleek Ware scored 14 points, and Darrion Evans eight to lead the Eagles.

Ridgway will play Southwest Christian at 1:10 p.m. next Saturday at Columbia Christian School in Magnolia, with the AACS high school finals to follow. The high school state tourney begins Thursday at Columbia.

Dumas 48, Dollarway 45

DeWITT — Dollarway outscored Dumas 19-10 in the fourth quarter but came up short in its first-round game of the 8-4A Conference tournament.

Adrian Alford led the Cardinals with 10 points, followed by Cameron Girley and Sharodrick Williams with eight each and Kendrick Hunter with seven. Dollarway (10-12) hit 5 of 17 from the free-throw line.

HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS

Dumas 58, Warren 38

DUMAS — On Friday, Shabr’an Richardson scored 23 points, and Dumas jumped to a 41-17 halftime lead in beating Warren.

Mona’ Mitchell, Whitney Henderson and A’Diamond Johnson each added seven points for the Lady Cats. Tyshina Smith led the Lady Jacks with 17.
