Lady Lions’ season ends to Lady Braves

GARLAND, Texas — Arkansas-Pine Bluff had its first turnover just four seconds into the game, and it did not get much better.

The Lady Lions committed 29 turnovers in the game as they dropped the first-round SWAC tournament matchup with Alcorn State 69-46 on Tuesday, ending their season.

Alcorn State (12-19) also got off to a quick start and took advantage of UAPB’s (1-29) turnovers and jumped out to a 17-4 lead in the first seven minutes of the game. The Lady Braves went into halftime with a 36-16 lead. The Lady Lions shot 26 percent (17-of-45) in the first half.

UAPB was able to stay with Alcorn State in the second half, but was never able to cut into the Lady Braves’ lead.

The Lady Braves ended the game with a 42-32 advantage on the boards. Alcorn State also made it to the free-throw line 31 times, making 20 of its attempts.

Jenise Gentry was UAPB’s only double-digit scorer as she had 17 points and seven rebounds.

For Alcorn State, Kiara Ruffin had 16 points, Carolinsia Crumbly added 11 and Sharnika Breedlove had 10.
