The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions dominated Arkansas Tech University on Monday night in a 3-0 sweep (25-21, 25-17, 26-24) for Coach Gabrielle Floyd’s first win with the volleyball program. The Lady Lions (1-3) offensively handled the Golden Suns (1-4) with 38 total kills. Fernanda Spengler led the game with 13 kills in the contest and Zykia Jones added 10 kills.
“Overall our play is absolutely improving, and that’s what we love to see,” Floyd said. “The win was much-needed [Monday] to give us a boost going forward. They’re starting to notice their mistakes more easily, which makes it easy and swift for them to fix. It shows that we’re getting better every day, so I’m just thankful for the growth.”
Leading the Lady Lions in assists was Nikole Akamine with 20. Starvoula Papazoglou led the game in digs with 20, and Breana August added to the total with 12 digs.
