The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball team fell at home Wednesday in its first midweek game this season.

Saint Francis defeated UAPB 8-0 in six innings at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex in Pine Bluff.

UAPB (6-9) managed one hit against SFU starter Rachel Marsden (6-4), who pitched 5.2 innings with nine strikeouts and no walks.

SFU (12-8) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, then scored 3 unearned runs in the fourth. The Red Flash added 4 runs in the sixth, leading to the run-rule victory.

The Red Flash finished with 11 hits. Third baseman Hannah Bendle hit 1-for-3 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs. Kaylie Walters hit 3-for-4 with an RBI and 2 runs. UAPB catcher Kaitlyn Neely had the Lady Lions’ lone hit.

UAPB starter Heidi Price (0-3) pitched the first four innings, allowing 1 earned run on seven hits. She struck out two hitters with no walks. The three unearned runs came with her in the circle as UAPB committed four errors in the game.

The Lady Lions begin conference play Sunday against Prairie View A&M in Pine Bluff.
