University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff junior guard Indiya Bowen was named a First Team HBCU All-American by BOXTOROW on Friday.
Bowen, who was previously named the SWAC Newcomer of the Year, was the SWAC’s leading scorer with 14.9 points per game. She was one of two Lady Lions to start all 31 games this season.
She was the only UAPB player named to the women’s All-America teams. Men’s guard Quion Williams was previously also announced as an All-American by BOXTOROW, giving each UAPB team one player.
Bowen was one of eight players named to the First Team, including three other SWAC players. Alabama A&M guard Kaila Walker, a UAPB transfer, also made the team, alongside Alcorn State graduate Nakia Cheatham and Texas Southern sophomore Taliyah Logwood. Three other SWAC players made the Second Team.
The MEAC swept the superlatives. Howard forward Zennia Thomas was named HBCU National Player of the Year, while Howard Coach Ty Grace was named Coach of the Year. Norfolk State guard Jasha Clinton was named Impact Player of the Year.
