KingFest Marade/Parade applications available

Applications are available for the 33rd annual KingFest MLK Marade/Parade. The original KingFest celebration at Pine Bluff honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The application deadline is Jan. 12 and the KingFest marade/parade will be held Monday, Jan. 16.

Churches, clergy members, social clubs, civic organizations, youth and neighborhood watch groups, sororities, fraternities, Pine Bluff and Southeast Arkansas schools, colleges, day care centers, businesses, and elected officials are encouraged to participate in the marade/parade.

The second annual band competition will take place with the winner receiving the“Lorenzo Smith Best Band Award.” Thirty-Fourth Avenue School was the previous winner.

The KingFest theme is “Living the Dream-Reviving the Spirit for Mentoring.” Parade participants are asked to display messages on floats, cars, banners and signs related to the theme.

Awards, sponsored by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., will be given for the most provocative banner, poster or float. Judging will consider creativity and originality, presentation, and overall appearance using the theme.

On Jan. 16, the marade/parade lineup time for participants is 1 p.m. at the Jefferson County Courthouse. The marade/parade will start at 2 p.m., proceed south on Main Street to Third Avenue and east on Third Avenue to Convention Center Drive, south on Convention Drive ending inside the Pine Bluff Convention Center where the ICVR King Team will present a short educational program.

The Pine Bluff Police Department will serve refreshments and interact with the community following the marade/parade.
