Only one of the three Democratic candidates for Jefferson County judge filed a campaign contribution and expenditure report with the county clerk’s office by the May 15 deadline, and one candidate had still not filed Friday afternoon.
Dutch King’s report was received Tuesday, May 15, and indicated receipt of $34,140 in monetary contributions, $21,935.45 in expenditures and a balance of $14,204.35. Alfred Carroll’s report was received Friday, May 18, and indicated loans of $2,300, contributions of $1,430, expenditures of $1,401.23 and a balance of $1,740.
Ivan Whitfield was expected to file his report by late Friday or Saturday, according to a deputy county clerk.
Dale Davis, a Democratic candidate for the District 13 seat on the county quorum court, was the only other local hopeful to file a report. He listed $1,750 in contributions and expenditures of $2,194.59.
The state mandates that opposed candidates in township, municipal and county primary races who have received or spent more than $500 in connection with their campaigns must file a financial report no later than May 15. State guidance further states that those “who fail to timely file” a report “face possible sanctions.”
Early voting continued at the courthouse on Friday. An election spokesperson said balloting had been steady throughout the day.
