Kids in the Kitchen
Youths at the Ashley County Boys and Girls Club have been experimenting in the kitchen and learning about nutrition thanks to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Cooperative Extension Program's Kids in the Kitchen initiative. Led by Debbie Kay Mazzanti, SNAP-Ed educator, the participants learned how to safely use utensils and prepare dishes such as turkey wraps, fruity pizza, veggie bowls and peanut butter crunchers. They even made smoothies using a 'smoothie bike,' a stationary bicycle equipped with a blender that is powered when pedaled. Around 28 children participated each day in the weeklong workshop.
