The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is offering several more $3,000 scholarships to incoming freshmen in the Learning Institute and Opportunities for New Students (LIONS) Program.
Interested students are asked to apply to the LIONS program and be admitted before June 30. Recipients will receive a scholarship for tuition, room, board and books. The LIONS program, in session July 5 to Aug. 5, prepares students for college.
The benefits of attending the program include: the completion of six credits of English and algebra; academic tutoring and enrichment sessions for English and algebra courses; “College Knowledge” workshops and seminars to ensure a successful transition to college life; on-campus housing; meeting other new freshman and UAPB faculty and staff; and developing supportive relationships.
“LIONS participants benefit greatly because they can complete their foundation courses during the program, and their experiences contribute to a more academically prepared, socially mature and knowledgeable first-year student,” Carolyn Mills, LIONS program director, said in a news release.
LIONS is sponsored by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Post-secondary Education, Strengthening Institutions, Title III, Part B, Historically Black Colleges and Universities Program.
Applications to the LIONS program are available at www.uapb.edu/lionsprogram and should be accompanied by admission to UAPB, campus housing and a completed FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for summer session aid from the 2015-2016 academic year.
