Jefferson-Samples-Dexter Water users in Jefferson County are under a preliminary boil order due to a main break. The order was issued June 7, according to a press release.
The Arkansas Department of Health confirmed that the boil water notice was issued for all the connections on south Highway 365; from Gravel Pit Road to Stark Gate Road and to Highway 256/Hoadley Road and all side streets.
The boil water notice will remain in effect until the problem has been corrected, an adequate disinfectant level is established throughout the distribution system and a bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink, according to the press release.
“This order was issued as a precautionary measure because of the possibility that contaminated water may have entered the distribution system as a result of partial loss in normal system pressure,” according to the press release.
“Under the ‘boil water’ order, all affected customers must be advised that the water may be unsafe for human consumption, and water used for drinking or food preparation must be boiled briskly for one minute prior to use. All ice cubes should be discarded and only boiled water used for making ice,” according to the press release.
