The community is invited to join the Jefferson County Relay For Life at Seabrook, 6808 S. Hazel St., Friday, May 5, from 6 p.m. to midnight.
Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
“Relay is a team fund-raising event where team members take turns walking around a track or designated path. Each event is 6-24 hours in length and each team is asked to have a member on the track at all times to signify that cancer never sleeps. Cancer patients don’t stop because they’re tired, and for one night, neither do we,” according to the Relay For Life website.
At the Jefferson County event, the survivor celebration will be held from 5-6 p.m. at Seabrook before the relay begins. Dinner is free for survivors who may bring one caregiver each. Additional guests may attend for $10 each, however they must RSVP to Leslie Humphrey at 870-850-0031. Also, a luminary ceremony will begin at 8 p.m.
The event will feature lots of booths, including food, crafts, with face painting and activities for children, and lots of entertainment for all ages, spokeswoman Bettye Johnson said.
Independent reporting for Pine Bluff & Jefferson County since 1879.
“It’s a great way to spend the evening and help support efforts to fight cancer in Jefferson County. Bring the family and grand children. Everyone will enjoy the evening and fellowship,” Johnson said.
“Relay is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5,200 communities and 27 countries. Volunteers give of their time and effort because they believe it’s time to take action against cancer,” according to the website.
Participants may also buy a luminary in honor of/or in memory of someone who died from cancer. The luminaries are $5 and available by contacting Shannon Morgan at Simmons Bank, 541-1000.
