The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:
• Precious Hearts Student Center, 1611 Brentwood Drive. Date of inspection Aug. 21. Discontinue consuming food, use of unapproved beverage containers, in food preparation or warewashing area (Not in compliance; corrected on site during inspection.)
• Rally’s Hamburgers, 403 N. Blake St. Date of inspection Aug. 21. Ice scoop must be stored to prevent contamination (Not in compliance; repeat violation; corrected on site during inspection.) Observation: Garbage cans need lids if not in continuous use (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Observation: Floors need to cleaned Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Observation: There is missing tile through-out the establishment (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• Subway, 1017 Sheridan Road, Redfield. Date of inspection Aug. 23. Observation: All trash cans need lids. Only need lids if they contain food residue and are not in continuous use (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)
• El Sol Mexican Restaurant, 3801 Camden Road, Suite 9. Date of inspection Aug. 23. All employee drinks in the food preparation area must have a lid a straw (Not in compliance; corrected on site during inspection.) Food not in the original packages for use in establishment must be identified with the common name of the food. Bulk containers holding stored ingredients of food unless food can be un-mistakenly recognized (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Food in walk-cooler should be stored at least six inches from the floor (Not in compliance; repeat violation; corrected on site during inspection.)
• Broadmoor Elementary School, 1106 S. Wisconsin St. Date of inspection Aug. 22. Wiping cloths shall be used as intended and in compliance with Regulations pertaining to Retail food establishment. Wiping cloth should be kept in sanitize solution after each use. All employee drinks in the food preparation area must have a lid and a straw.
• W.T. Cheney School, 2100 Ridgway Road. Date of inspection Aug. 24. All employee drinks in the food preparation area must have a lid and straw.
• Ridgway Christian School, 3201 Ridgway Road. Date of inspection Aug. 24. Wiping cloths shall be used as intended and in compliance with Regulations pertaining to retail food establishment. Wiping cloths should be kept in sanitize solution after use. All trash cans need lids. Only need lids if they food residue and are not in continuous use.
• Watson Chapel football, 4000 Camden Road. Date of inspection Aug. 25. No observations reported.
• Watson Chapel softball concession, 4000 Camden Road. Date of inspection Aug. 25. No observations reported.
• Watson Chapel High School softball field, 6120 Sulphur Springs Road. Date of inspection Aug. 25. All lighting must be covered.
• Watson Chapel gym concession, 4000 Camden Road. Date of inspection Aug. 25. No observations reported.
• UAPB Day Care Center, 26 Watson Boulevard. Date of inspection Aug. 28. No observations reported.
• Sobriety Living Center, 2001 W. Fifth Ave. Date of inspection Aug. 28. USA Food Program shows that “Business has expired licenses; call 501-661-2171 and check on permit status. Hole in wall in store room; repair wall to keep out vermin. Mouse droppings on shelves in storeroom; clean up droppings to see if control measures are working.
• McDonald’s, 2908 E. Harding Ave. Date of inspection Aug. 28. Food workers shall wear hair restraints, beard restraints, and clothing that covers body hair.
• Juvenile Justice Center, 301 E. Second Ave. Date of inspection Aug. 28. Walk-in cooler product 43 degrees. Yesterday’s reading on temp chart shows 40 degrees. Staff had already called for serviceman before health department inspector came for routine assessment. No ready-to-eat products in walk-in.
• Angelita Restaurant, 2901 Pines Mall Drive, Suite 704. Date of inspection Aug. 28. Bulk containers need cleaning; clean or replace containers. Some areas of establishment need cleaning; clean all areas as needed. Trash can not covered; keep lid on trash cans when not in use. Light bulb in walk-in cooler not protected from breakage; it needs to be shielded or shatterproof. Duct tape on rice bulk container; replace with cleanable container. Cardboard on floor of walk-in cooler; floor coverings need to be smooth, non-absorbent and easily cleanable. No sanitizer test strips; need strips to check sanitizer levels in third sink and wiping cloth water.
• Coleman Intermediate School, 4600 W. 13th Ave. Date of inspection Aug. 29. No observations reported.
