Jefferson County Food Safety for the week of 5-28-17


The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:

• Simplee’s Barbeque, 700 E Harding Ave. Date of inspection May 5. Observed single service cups being stored unprotected. Single service items should be stored in original package or in another way to prevent contamination (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• Thunder Lanes, 1600 E. Harding Ave. Date of inspection May 5. Observed single service cups and lids in kitchen being stored out of their original packaging. Single service items should be stored in their original package or by other means that protects them from contamination until being used (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• Circle N 65-81 Truck Stop, 4711 B U.S 65. Date of follow-up inspection May 5. Counter tops where drinks are located is unclean and needs to be cleaned (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• Pizza Hut , 7197 Sheridan Road, Suite 104, White Hall. Date of inspection May 8. Sanitizer not detected in automatic dishwasher. Sanitizer was replaced with new container and retested between 50-100 ppm with chlorine test papers (Not in compliance; corrected on site during inspection.) Trash cans containing food residue should be kept covered when not in continuous use (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Some flooring throughout kitchen, especially under fryers, pizza oven, and wing prep area is unclean and needs to be cleaned (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• Ocean’s Fish and Chicken, 1422 S. Cherry St. Date of inspection May 8. Food must be stored in compliance with established regulations. Onions should be stored six inches above the floor (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Need chlorine test strips to ensure proper sanitizing solution concentration (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Observation: Air vents need to be cleaned (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• White Hall High School, 700 Bulldog Drive, White Hall. Date of inspection May 9. Clean dishes were observed being air dried on wiping cloths. Clean dishes should not be air dried on cloths (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• White Hall High School, (White Hall High School football concession), 700 Bulldog Drive, White Hall. Date of inspection May 9. Need test strips to test sanitizer strength on home and visitor side (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Hot water not available in home concession stand. Hot water should be available in concession stand (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• Church’s Fried Chicken, 1601 Cherry St. Date of inspection May 9. Needs to clean non-food contact surface. Needs to clean floor in walk-in cooler (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) There are some missing floor tiles that need to be repaired or replaced (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) No current health permit posted.

• White Hall Middle School, 8106 Dollarway Road, White Hall. Date of inspection May 10. Observed restroom door being propped open. Restroom door should be closed except during cleaning and maintenance operations (Not in compliance; repeat violation, corrected on site during inspection.)

• The Social League, 303 W 31st Ave. Date of inspection May 11. Refrigerator leaking condensation; needs repaired (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Floors under and behind equipment need to be cleaned (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• Rich’s Burgers, 102 N. Walnut St. Date of inspection May 10. Drying of wiping cloths should be in accordance with regulations. Wiping cloths should be kept in a sanitize solution after each use (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Need to clean non-food contact surfaces (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• Pine Bluff Convention, #1 Convention Center Plaza. Date of inspection May 10. Gaps noted on back receiving doors and should be filled or closed (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)
