Jefferson County Food Safety for the week of 4-30-17


The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:

• GURSIMAR- LLC, 2401 E. Sixth Ave. Date of inspection April 10. Hand-washing sink is blocked and should be unblocked so that it is accessible at all times (Not in compliance.) Meat slicer is unclean and needs to be cleaned. Meat slicer was cleaned during inspection (Not in compliance; corrected on site during inspection.) Opened deli meats held for more than 24 hours must be date marked and kept for no more than 7 days. Opened deli meats were dated during inspection (Not in compliance; corrected on site during inspection.) Ice scoop stored improperly in ice maker machine. Ice scoop was placed handle up during inspection (Not in compliance; repeat violation; corrected on site during inspection.) Three compartment sink is leaking from the nozzle and needs to be repaired (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Trash can lid in kitchen is unclean and needs to be cleaned (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Some ceiling tiles in store area are missing and some are water damaged. Specified ceiling tiles should be replaced (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Vent hood is unclean and needs to be cleaned (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• Shipley’s, 2720 S. Hazel St. Date of inspection April 12. Make sure to keep all deli meats at 41 degrees below (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Observation: Need chlorine test strips to ensure proper sanitizing solution concentration (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• Stop-n-Shop, 1100 W. 16th Ave. Date of inspection April 14. Drying of wiping cloths should be in accordance with regulations. Wiping cloths should be kept in a sanitize solution after each use (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Need more lighting in establishment (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• Southeast Arkansas College food court, 1900 S. Hazel St. Date of inspection April 12. Reach-in refrigerator is leaking condensation from vents into refrigerator and onto the floor — needs repaired (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• Sweet Shirley Ann’s, 209 W. Harding Ave. Date of inspection April 14. Used wiping cloths should be kept in a sanitizer solution between use (Not in compliance; repeat violation; corrected on site during inspection.)

• Super 1 Foods, 1605 E. Harding Ave. Date of inspection April 14. Paper towels are needed at hand-washing sink in meat department (Not in compliance.) Grinding block wall in meat department is damaged and needs to be repaired or replaced (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Air vents in meat department are unclean and need to be cleaned (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Light shields in meat department near fans are unclean and need to be cleaned (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Two ceiling tiles in produce department are missing and need to be replaced (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• Days Inn, 406 N. Blake St. ATTN: Bob Patel. Date of inspection April 17. No violations observed during time of inspection.

• Shell Food Mart, 2801 Hazel St. Date of inspection April 17. Hot water nozzle on three compartment sink is broken and needs to be repaired (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)
