The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:
• McDonald’s, 8012 Sheridan Road, White Hall. Date of inspection March 27. No soap observed at hand-washing sink in kitchen. Soap should be provided at all hand-washing sinks. Soap was placed at hand-washing sink during inspection.
• McDonald’s, 5501 Olive St. Date of inspection March 22. Observed raw bacon being stored above eggs in walk in cooler. Raw bacon should be stored below eggs. Raw bacon was moved below eggs during inspection.

• Wal mart Supercenter deli/bakery, 5501 Olive St. Date of inspection March 22. Some hot holding temperatures in hot hold unit are out of safe temperature range (must be 135 degrees F or above). Chicken out of temperature was discarded during inspection. Paper towels not observed at several hand-washing sinks throughout bakery/deli area. Paper towels were placed at each hand-washing sink during inspection. soap not observed at front hand-washing sink in bakery. Soap was placed at hand-washing sink during inspection.
• Dotties on The Mezzanine, P. O. BOX 7009. Date of inspection March 21. Time not being properly used on food sitting out; not staying hot or cold. Employee placed time on food sitting out to be thrown away after 4 hours if not used.
• Lucky’s Cafe, 310 E. Fifth Ave. Date of inspection March 20. Observed tobacco and tobacco smell in office area connected to kitchen. Employees should not smoke tobacco in building.
• Starbucks – ARAMARK, 1301 L.A. Davis Prexy Drive. Date of inspection March 15. Hand-washing sink should be used for hand washing.
