Jefferson County Food Safety for the week of 3-25-18


The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:

• Juvenile Justice Center, 301 E. Second Ave. Date of inspection March 15. Observed raw bacon being stored above precooked meat. Raw meat should be stored below precooked meat. Raw meat was moved to bottom shelf during inspection.

• Dollar General Store, 9001 U.S. 270, White Hall. Date of inspection March 14. Some cold-holding temperatures in milk refrigerator are out of safe temperature range (must be 41 degrees F or below).

• Love’s Travel Shop/Subway, 4800 U.S. 65 S. Date of inspection March 14. Observed food being stored uncovered in front refrigerator. Food should be covered while being stored. Food was covered during inspection.

• C and D Child Care Center, 4806 W. Ninth Ave. Date of inspection March 13. Hand-washing sink needs to be cleaned.

• Delta – ARAMARK, 1701 S. Spruce St. Date of inspection March 13. Make sure to check cooler for proper temperatures.

• Motel 6, 3103 Market St. Date of inspection March 13. Paper towels or other hand drying device should be provided at all hand-washing sinks. Chemical bottles observed being stored next to single service items. Chemicals should be stored separate from single service items. Chemicals were moved under sink during inspection.

• Pizza Hut/JBJ, 1050 L.A. Prexy Davis Drive. Date of inspection March 13. Improper storage walk-in cooler.

• Valero, 3000 E. Harding Ave. Date of inspection March 13. Ice machine deflector shield is unclean and needs to be cleaned. Ice machine deflector shield was cleaned during inspection. Paper towels are not available and should be available at hand-washing sink in men’s restroom.

• El Sol Mexican Restaurant, 3801 Camden Road, Suite 9. Date of inspection March 12. Hand-washing sink should be used for hand washing.

• Addi’s Corner 2, 101 N. Blake St. Date of inspection March 9. Chicken in hot-holding unit was out of safe temperature range during inspection. Food being held hot should be 135 degrees F or above. Chicken was discarded during inspection. Chemical bottle observed being stored next to pre-packaged candy. Chemical bottle should be stored separate from food. Chemical bottle was moved during inspection. Observed carton of milk being stored directly in ice used for customer consumption. Milk should not be stored in ice used for customer consumption. Milk was removed from ice during inspection.

• Econolodge, 210 N. Blake St. Date of inspection March 9. Paper towels or other hand-drying device are not provided in the restroom hand-washing sink. Paper towels or other hand-washing device should be provided at all hand-washing sinks. Napkins were supplied at hand-washing sink during inspection. Soap not observed in restroom hand-washing sink. Soap should be available at all hand-washing sinks. Soap was supplied at hand-washing sink during inspection.

• Sonic Drive In, 2407 Olive St. Date of follow-up inspection March 9. Observed bacon sitting out on counter in pan not holding hot with no time kept on it. Time was placed on pan during inspection.

• Shipley Donuts, 1300 S. Main St. Date of inspection March 8. Need paper towels in women’s restroom.

• SOS Express #2, 3402 Old Warren Road. Date of inspection March 8. Make sure to label food with date as discussed.

• Forrest Park/Greenville Preschool, 2501 W. 10th Ave. Date of inspection March 7. Sanitizer is not dispensing properly in automatic dishwasher.

• Tutor U of White Hall – Tiny T, 1600 W. 40th Ave. Date of inspection March 7. Make sure to label food with date as discussed. (When food is delivered).

• Wendy’s, 2910 Pines Mall Drive. Date of follow-up inspection March 2. Some cold-holding temperatures in two prep tables are out of safe temperature range (must be 41 degrees F or below).

• Daylight Donuts, 2320 S. Blake St. Date of inspection March 1. All employee drinks in the food preparation area must have a lid and a straw.

• Ocean’s Fish and Chicken, 3700 Camden Road. Date of inspection Feb. 28. Make sure to cover all food in cooler. Make sure to label food with date as discussed.

• Sonic Drive In, 2407 Olive St. Date of inspection Feb. 28. Observed employee touching ready-to-eat foods with bare hands. Employees should wear gloves when handling ready-to-eat foods. Employee put gloves on during inspection. Some cold-holding temperatures in front prep cooler are out of safe temperature range (must be 41 degrees F or below). Open drink observed in the grill area. Drinks in kitchen should have a lid and a straw. Employee threw drink in the trash during inspection. Observed bacon and grilled cheese sandwiches sitting out on counter in pans not holding hot with no time kept on them. Time was placed on pans during inspection. Observed chemical bottle being stored next to tongs used for food. Chemical bottle was moved to chemical storage area during inspection.

• Burger King, 7820 Sheridan Road, White Hall. Date of inspection Feb. 27. Some cold-holding temperatures in small prep cooler holding chicken and salads are out of safe temperature range (must be 41 degrees F or below). Chicken held overnight and probed at 57 degrees F was thrown away and chicken prepped at 10:30 a.m. this morning and probed at 68 degrees F was in the cooling process and moved to the walk in freezer to cool down more quickly.

• McDonald’s, 2819 Olive St. Date of inspection Feb. 27. Ice container near drive thru window observed without a cover over the ice it contains. Ice being stored should be kept covered to prevent from contamination. Lid was placed on ice container during inspection. Observed raw chicken patties being stored above raw beef patties in walk-in freezer. Raw chicken should be stored below raw beef. Raw chicken was placed below raw beef during inspection. Time on vegetables being held out of temperature exceeds the four hour hold time. Employee said that the vegetables were placed in the containers recently. New times were placed on vegetables for a four hour hold during inspection. Observed tan colored liquid in front hand washing sink. Hand-washing sink should only be used to wash hands in. Employee rinsed sink out during inspection.

• Taco Bell, 8001 Sheridan Road, White Hall. Date of inspection Feb. 27. Observed chemical bottle being stored next to single service utensils and sauce packets. Chemicals should be stored separate from utensils and food. Chemical bottle was moved to chemical storage area during inspection.
