The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:
• McDonald’s, 5501 Olive St. Date of inspection Sept. 20. Food workers shall wear hair restraints, beard restraints, and clothing that covers body hair. Some employees with no hair restraints.
• Wendy’s, 2909 W. 28th Ave. Sept. 22. Stainless ice bucket with metal splitting around bottom. Metal fragments could contaminate ice. Bucket was discarded during assessment. Single serve chili cups and lids must be stored in original package and in a manner that prevents contamination. Bottom most cups and lids setting on soiled, moist towel. Bottom section of cups and lids discarded and towel replaced during assessment.
• Shipley Donuts, 1300 S. Main St. Out of paper towels in men’s room. Corrected. Out of hand soap in men’s room. Corrected. Noticed cardboard being reused for various things in preparation area. It cannot be cleaned and sanitized. Use durable, washable materials instead. Saw some rodent droppings on lower shelves in storeroom. Clean this up so you can tell if your control program is working.
