Jefferson County 4-H now registering youth for summer camps

The Jefferson County 4-H program is currently registering county youth for the following summer camps:

• Arkansas 4-H State Camps “Go Outside and Play” will offer youth ages 9 to 15 a unique educational camping experience at the C.A. Vines Arkansas 4-H Center located in Ferndale. Staff at the center and a selected group of teen camp counselors organize and conduct camp for participants.

Two levels of camp are available: Junior Camp, for youth ages 9 to 12 (as of Jan. 1, 2012); and Adventure Challenge Camp, for youth ages 13 to 15 (as of Jan. 1, 2012). Camp dates are July 9-11. Cost is $75 for both camps. Campers will be refunded $25 of the camp fee upon return.

According to Pia Woods, county Extension agent-4-H Youth Development, camp applicants must be enrolled as a member in the Jefferson County 4-H program. Enrollment for 4-H is open throughout the year and can be completed electronically by logging on to www.arkansas4honline.com.

More information or assistance with online enrollment or camp registration is available by calling the county Extension office at 870-534-1033; e-mailing pwoods@uaex.edu; or visiting the Jefferson County Extension office at 500 Idaho St. The registration deadline is June 1.

The 4-H program is open to all youth between the ages of 5 and 19 without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, gender, disability, or any other legally protected status. Persons with disabilities who require alternative means for communication of program information (large print, audiotapes, etc.) should notify the county Extension office as soon as possible prior to the activity.
