Jefferson Area students compete; one wins medal

Students at the Jefferson Area Technical Career Center at Pine Bluff recently competed in the Arkansas-SkillsUSA annual spring leadership conference at Hot Springs and one student won a silver medal.

Kameron Dorrough of Dollarway High School won second place in the Job Skill Demonstration category.

Dorrough demonstrated the job skill of product development through the use of field sketching, converting that sketch or schematic into a computer aided drafting and design (CAD) drawing then bringing that product to life by creating a prototype for review.

Dorrough also spoke on the overall job description and field of a mechanical drafter.

Students enrolled in CAD, criminal justice and welding are a part of the national student organization, SkillsUSA, according to a press release from the Jefferson Area center.

The contests at the Arkansas-SkillsUSA conference include competitions in various technical skills ranging from diesel repair to culinary arts.

The Jefferson Area center students competed in job interview, chapter display, quiz bowl, felony traffic stop, welding, job skill demonstration, crime scene investigation, prepared speech and extemporaneous speaking.
