Indigo Blue Coffeehouse, 212 W. Barraque St., will present an art and essay exhibit on Black History featuring works of Jefferson County 5th graders beginning Wednesday, Feb. 13.
The event is in conjunction with First Ward Alderwoman Joni Alexander, according to a news release.
A meet and greet will be held at Indigo Blue from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16. The event is free and open to the public. The community will have a chance to meet the students and discuss their work, according to the release.
The public is invited to view the art work Wednesday through Saturday, Feb. 13–16, during Indigo Blue’s regular business hours: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
The art work will include paintings and pencil and pen drawings. The students chose their own topics and many focused their essays on the lives and the achievements of historic African Americans, according to the release.
