In incomplete results, Vonysha Goodwin leads in treasurer’s race

Jefferson County voters cast ballots for the county treasurer and three justices of the peace but the results had not been tallied by press time.

An absentee vote-counting machine broke down and one justice of the peace race was incorrectly listed on the ballots, Jefferson County Election Commissioners Stu Soffer and Mike Adam said. These caused delays in the tabulation of votes, Soffer and Adam said.

These are the incomplete tallies for votes cast in 181 precincts of a total of 202 precincts as of 10:20 p.m. Tuesday.

In the race for Jefferson County Treasurer, Deputy Treasurer Vonysha Goodwin was leading newcomer Republican James Bass Jr. by 6,206 votes to 4,039.

“Right now it is a good feeling to know where I am,” Goodwin said while looking at the numbers at 10:20 p.m.

The Jefferson County Quorum Court races were also not finalized as of press time.

In District 8 incumbent Republican Roy Agee was leading challenger Eric L. Hobbs by 129 votes to 99.

In District 9 Democrat Cedric Jackson was leading incumbent Republican Derwood Smith by 680 votes to 262.

In District 11 Republican Danny Holcomb was leading Democrat Shade Culclager by 692 votes to 182.
