ICVR seeks ministers to address homicides at unity event

The Interested Citizens for Voter Registration’s Respect for Life Campaign is asking ministers in Pine Bluffto address the numerous homicides by joining in a unity meeting.

The unity meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 2 at True Vine “E” Baptist Church, 1001 W. Second Ave. Members of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and Pine Bluff Police Department are also invited to attend and provide crime statistics.

“The senseless acts of murder will not be ignored without a response and strategy from Pine Bluff churches,” The Rev. Jesse Turner, ICVR executive director, said.

Clergy, both black and white, are asked to become involved in an “epidemic” that is destroying the city, he said.

The Respect for Life Campaign is targeting clergy members because of the unique position they hold in the community, and the influence they have each Sunday from the pulpit.
