The Interested Citizens for Voter Registration Pen or Pencil Take A Stand To Keep A Seat Centralizing Change community-based site will meet 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at the ICVR office, 2315 S. Olive Street.
Students participating at Southeast and Belair middle schools, Pine Bluff High School and the Lighthouse Charter School are invited to bring their parents for a group picture and discussion. The group picture to be featured in the National Pen or Pencil publication in January 2015. The student and parent topic for discussion is, “How to successfully deal with law enforcement when they are enforcing the law” and a video titled “Justice Sunday.”
Pine Bluff youngsters are leading the public dialogue on race relations in Arkansas and learning about anniversaries of key events in United States civil rights history such as the Brown vs Board of Education decision, the Civil Rights Act and the history of Central High School in Little Rock.
Take A Stand To Keep A Seat Centralizing Change provides valuable benchmarks that recognize youth leadership; foster productive dialogue and actions around race; and revive the power, creativity and spirit of new ideas from Pine Bluff youth.
The POP King Team empowers youth to gain an appreciation for community service through teamwork. There is no cost associated with ICVR POP King Team membership; however, youth are expected to participate in community service projects and meetings to become eligible for travel during the summer. The ICVR King Team is open to youth ages 8 to 18 who commit to nonviolence, community service and staying drug free.
