A part-time police officer at Humphrey was injured at about 7:30 a.m. Monday during a traffic stop on U.S. 79 in Jefferson County.
According to a press release from the Arkansas State Police, Sgt. Seneca Thornton, 36, who is a full-time police officer at Stuttgart was struck by a southbound vehicle as he approached the vehicle he had stopped.
The driver of the suspect vehicle crashed into a ditch south of the traffic stop and that person, along with Thornton, was taken to an area hospital.
State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said in the press release that an investigation is underway by both the Highway Patrol Division and the Criminal Investigation Division.
The name of the driver of the other vehicle was not released pending further investigation.
