House poised to approve U.S. Marshals commemorative coin.

WASHINGTON – The House is poised to approve legislation Wednesday calling for a coin commemorating the 225th anniversary of the U.S. Marshals Service.

Reps. Steve Womack, R-Rogers, and Mike Ross, D-Prescott, spoke in favor of the legislation Tuesday evening. A vote is scheduled for Wednesday.

The bill, which has 301 co-sponsors, proposes that the Treasury mint coins in 2014 to mark the 225th anniversary of the marshals Service. Sales of the coins could provide up to $5 million for a planned U.S. Marshals Museum in Fort Smith.

Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., has introduced companion legislation in the Senate that has 30 co-sponsors.

The US Marshals Museum Foundation in Fort Smith hired David Olive of Catalyst Partners in mid-October to lobby on the issue on their behalf.

Olive was chief of staff to former Rep. Asa Hutchinson, R-Ark.
