Home sales increase slightly in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK — Home sales in Arkansas were up slightly in October compared to the same month a year ago, the Arkansas Realtors Association reported Monday.

The association said in its monthly report that 1,825 homes sold in the state in October, up 0.66 percent from 1,813 in October 2010. The average price of a home was $146,053, up 1.13 percent from $144,427 a year ago.

Home sales totaled 30 in Jefferson County and 88 in Sebastian County. Pulaski County led the state with 290 homes sold during the month, followed by Benton County with 265, Washington County with 147, Saline County with 101 and Craighead County with 98.

“Affordability and strong mortgage rates are certainly helping to drive this year’s improved numbers,” said Amy Glover Bryant, spokeswoman for the association. “It’s a buyer’s market still, and we recommend Arkansans work with local Realtors to find a new home in time for the new year.”

The average price of homes sold was $71,556 in Jefferson County and $125,299 in Sebastian County. The highest figure was reported in Garland County at $182,984, followed by Cleburne County at $180,705, Pulaski County at $174.905, Faulkner County at $170,971 and Boone County at $166,256.

The number of homes sold in the state the first 10 months of the year was 20,880, down 0.26 percent from 20,934 in the first 10 months of 2010.
