Historical Museum seeking Arsenal memorabilia for exhibit

The Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Historical Museum, 201 E. Fourth Ave., is planning a new exhibit to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Pine Bluff Arsenal.

To make this exhibit special, the museum is asking for loans or donations of objects from those who once worked at the arsenal, those who had family working at the arsenal, collectors of arsenal memorabilia, the military who served at the arsenal and anyone with fond memories and collections of objects connected with the arsenal.

This exhibit will illustrate the story of the arsenal, those who built it, those who worked there and all those who made it possible.

“The arsenal changed the course of Pine Bluff and Southeast Arkansas and it is time to pay tribute. We want to hear your stories of working at the arsenal, how you watched it grow, and how you noticed changes in Pine Bluff during your time with the arsenal,” said Kristi Alexander, museum director. “To design an appropriate exhibit, we need the artifacts.”

The museum is asking anyone who would like to donate or lend their objects to contact the museum by the end of June by calling 870-541-5402 or by e-mail at historydirector@cablelynx.com.

The Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Historical Museum has a mission to collect, preserve and interpret the rich and diverse history of Pine Bluff within Jefferson County, from 1800 to the present. The museum is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free.
