Highway officials urge caution over holiday weekend

Drivers will likely face work zones and possible delays because of increased traffic volume over the Memorial Day weekend, according to the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department.

Extensive highway work continues and AHTD has been working to open as many lanes as possible. AAA says gasoline should be about $1 cheaper this Memorial Day and expects more than 37 million Americans to travel, the most since 2005.

To help motorists find ways around accidents and work zone backups on interstates, AHTD has an alternate routes feature at IDriveArkansas.com. It displays linkages between the interstate corridors and secondary routes that motorists may consider when travel is delayed. Details also can be found on Twitter@AHTD.
