The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department reminds drivers to “know before you go” and visit IDriveArkansas.com before traveling this Memorial Day holiday weekend.
“Extensive highway improvements continue in the state. With those improvements come work zones. To aid in your holiday travel, AHTD has been working hard to open as many lanes as possible. Still, travelers will likely face work zones and possible delays due to increased traffic volume,” a spokesman said in a news release.
More than 39.3 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles from home, the American Automobile Association predicts.
“That is one million more travelers than last year, which is the highest Memorial Day travel volume since 2005. The Memorial Day holiday travel period is defined as Thursday, May 25, through Monday, May 29,” a spokesman said.
A list of closures on Arkansas’ Primary Highway Network during the holiday weekend include Interstate 530 in White Hall, mile markers 29-35, for 6 miles in both directions for 24 hours.
To help motorists find ways around accidents and work zone backups on interstates, AHTD has an alternate routes feature on IDriveArkansas.com. The feature displays links between the interstate corridors and secondary routes that drivers may consider when travel is delayed. Updated information is also on Twitter @AHTD.
