Highway 65 dedication events set

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department will sponsor two dedication ceremonies to celebrate the completion of the widening of U.S. 65 from two lanes to four lanes between Pine Bluff and Lake Village.

On July 19, the first event will take place at 9 a.m. in the front parking lot of the Merchants and Farmers Bank in Dumas on U.S. 65 just south of the intersection with Arkansas 54.

The second event will be held at 2 p.m. at the highway department’s District 2 Headquarters in Pine Bluff, 4900 U.S. 65 South just east of the intersection with U.S. 425.

The widening project began in 1988 with a $3.9 million contract near Lake Village and finished in 2012 with two projects near Gould. A total of 19 projects totaling more than $200 million have been completed during that time.
